Hike 9/23 Soleduck River & Falls

Head for the Olympics to see one of the northwest's iconic waterfalls, located in a mossy old growth forest in the heart of Olympic National Park. The hike is gentle, and there are two trails that lead up the valley from the Soleduck (aka Sol Duc) Resort area. We'll go out on one side of the river and return on the other. Expect to see plenty of beautiful trees and river scenery, and the breath-taking falls providing the climax. Note that the Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort is a private concession, and the pools there are open only to resort guests. Trip cost includes ferry fees. Bring a national park or federal lands pass if you have one.
Expected Conditions:
All roads and trails are open and in good condition, with no significant obstacles reported. This is a link to information on this hike from All Trails. We will start near the Soleduck (aka Sol Duc) Resort, and do the hike as a loop going counter-clockwise. The elevation ranges from around 1600 feet at the trailhead to a little over 2000 feet near Soleduck Falls. Most of the trail would be considered fairly gentle and easy by most hikers. Some reviews of the trail mention rocky sections, as well as sections with tree roots, so do not expect a perfectly smooth path. There may be small streams that have to be crossed by stepping on rocks-- easy for most hikers, but possibly a little challenging for some. There is nothing that would be considered dangerous or intimidating.
Other Considerations:
Wear good traction hiking shoes or boots for this trail. Trekking poles may be helpful at times. Pack food and water in your pack and plan to have a lunch break out on the trail. We'll be taking the Edmonds Ferry at 7:55 in the morning, and returning on the 6:10 ferry in the evening. Let me know if you'd like to be picked up on our way to the ferry.
