Hike 7/2 Grand Park via Lake Eleanor

This striking feature in Mount Rainier National Park is a broad plateau filled with wildflowers in July, and the "back door" hiking approach via Lake Eleanor, just outside the northern park boundary, makes it reachable as a moderate day hike. Come see the views, watch for wildlife, and enjoy the colorful blossoms that should be near their peak beauty. You'll likely run out of superlatives to describe the scene.

Expected Conditions:

Forest Service Road 73 that normally accesses the trailhead for this hike is currently CLOSED several miles before the trailhead due to washouts and a small landslide. There is an alternate approach road that reaches the trailhead, but there is no information about the status of that road. I will monitor the situation and find out if we can access the trailhead. If we can't go to Grand Park, I will offer an alternate hike in the same area. It's possible that the road to Sunrise will be open by then, which makes it likely that we would do a hike from Sunrise as an alternate. I will reach out to everyone when the situation becomes clearer.

Other Considerations:

I need all trip participants to update and submit a Hold Harmless Form for 2026.  Click here to go to the form page.
