Hike 11/7 Twanoh State Park / Guillemot Cove
Saturday, November 7, 7:45 AM - 5:30 PM
5 miles round trip, 500 - 800 feet elevation gain.
Meet at Everett Station Park & Ride Lot --

This double-feature of short hikes west of Bremerton features some great scenery along Hood Canal, and the chance to hike along a creek that's an ideal spot to see migrating chum salmon. We'll begin at Guillemot Cove Nature Reserve, where a forest trail leads down to a secluded beach with view across to the Olympic Mountains, and a few curiosities invite explorations. Then we head to Twanoh State Park, which features not just the salmon, but a beautiful forested canyon with some old growth trees. Trip cost includes ferry fees.
Expected Conditions:
There aren't any really recent reports for either Guillemot Cove Reserve or Twanoh State Park, but both areas are frequently hiked year-round and are likely to be in decent condition. Expect some possible wet or muddy areas, depending on recent weather. Both areas are near sea level and offer options to walk a loop route. The route at Guillemot Cove (which we'll do first) starts at 350 feet above Hood Canal and drops down to it (sea level), so you can't avoid the 350-foot climb back up. The route at Twanoh starts at Hood Canal, and you can go as far as you want, gaining up to 400 feet if you do the full 2 mile loop. Those who prefer less elevation gain can go out and back at any point they wish to stop. I'm expecting to see chum and silver salmon in Twanoh Creek, as this is prime spawning time.
Other Considerations:
Wear good traction hiking shoes or boots for this trip. Wet season is upon us, so waterproof footwear are highly recommended. Trekking poles will probably be helpful for most people as we do the ups and downs. Pack food and water in your pack, and plan to have a lunch break either out on the trails (if it's dry), or at a picnic shelter in Twanoh State Park (if it's rainy). I will plan to take the Edmonds-Kingston Ferry both directions on this trip, aiming for the 8:50 sailing in the morning, and either the 4:00 or 4:40 boat in the afternoon. If you'd like a pick up in Edmonds at the Pine Street location, let me know. I will plan to arrive there around 8:15 or so.
I need all trip participants to update and submit a Hold Harmless Form for 2026. Click here to go to the form page.
