Hike 6/7 Point Whitehorn/Semiahmoo Spit
4-5 miles, 200 feet elevation gain.
Trip description
Check out a couple of nice seashore walks in Whatcom County north of Bellingham. Watch for seals, shorebirds, and other wildlife, and take in the views of islands, salt water, and distant mountain peaks on both sides of the US/Canada border. Point Whitehorn Preserve has a nice accessible trail leading through wetlands and forest to the cobblestone beach, where an outgoing tide should reveal plenty of interesting tide pool life. At Semiahmoo Spit, a short walk yields big scenic payoffs, including Mount Baker, The Sisters Range, and a multitude of BC Coast Range summits.
