Hike 4/4 Dungeness Spit
5 - 11 miles, 200 feet elevation gain.
Trip description
Take a break from reality and join us for a day out at the longest natural sand spit in the country, which juts far out into the Strait of Juan De Fuca near Sequim. The spit is the centerpiece of the Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge, and hikers here will see a fine variety of shorebirds and other wildlife, not to mention some great views of the sea and the mountains. You can make this a leisurely walk by going partway out and back on the 5-mile long spit, or hike the whole length to visit the historic 1857 lighthouse near the tip. Note that I've chosen a day when the low tide (-0.1) is around noon, making for the easiest beach walking conditions. Trip cost includes ferry fees.
