Bike 7/26 Dungeness to Elwha on the ODT
up to 25 miles, 400 feet elevation gain.
Trip description
Ride the premier bike trail on the Olympic Peninsula. The Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT) runs for 135 miles from Port Townsend all the way to the Pacific Coast at La Push. Many sections make outstanding one-day rides, and we'll be doing a classic journey linking the two great rivers of the northern Olympic Peninsula. Beginning just west of Sequim, we'll start the ride from the Dungeness River Nature Center, heading west toward Port Angeles. We ride through P.A. on the Strait of Juan de Fuca waterfront, continuing to our conclusion at the dramatic double-decker bridge over the Elwha River. This is an all-paved route, so any bike in good working condition can do the ride. The trail is mostly gentle, but is not flat. Expect some hills. If you NEVER ride up hills, you might be walking your bike several times. The trail is mostly separated from traffic, with short sections in Port Angeles along low-speed, low-volume streets. Bring a helmet, spare inner tube, and a few tools. Trip price includes the cost of the ferry and bike trailer rental.
