Walk 12/19 Newberry Hill Heritage Park
Crossing the sound on the Edmonds Ferry in the morning with a view of the fresh snow on the Olympics

Lovely forest trail, with no obstacles, mud, or large puddles

This is normally a wetland bog, but all the recent rains have turned it into a lake.


The wetland is an important ecological feature on the Kitsap Peninsula, providing clean water for birds, fish, and other wildlife


Saw lots of wild rhododendron along the trail


Most of the forest is second-growth, but there were a few giants like this Red Cedar


Young coho salmon come here to grow and mature in a clean, undisturbed wetland


The trail system was a mix of easy gated roads and nicely-constructed trails.


Wait, what? Is that a wooley mammoth in the woods.


The Klahowya School is nearby, and there's an interpretive trail complete with renderings of animals that roamed here in ages past.
