Hike 3/12 Point Defiance Park
Nature's art in moss on an old fallen log


Most of the Inner Loop and Outer Loop Trails we followed are in lovely old growth forest


The park gets an estimated 3 million visitors a year, but on a gray March weekday, most of the trails were nearly empty


A glimpse through the trees reveals the Narrows Bridge


Hiking next to the huge firs and cedars


Took time out for a lunch break at a convenient picnic shelter


Like so many park structures, the shelter was a legacy of FDR's New Deal programs


This colossal fir was 8 feet in diameter, an estimated 500 years old. It was here before Shakespeare was born.

The popular beach area was nearly deserted today
