Explore one of the Eastside's finest and best-maintained walking parks, and then discover a pleasant short walking path near the same small creek . Opened in the fall of 2011 by the City of Sammamish, the Evans Creek Preserve is a 179-acre area of wetlands and meadows has 2.6 miles of excellent, natural-surface trails. There are numerous well-constructed bridges, boardwalks and viewing platforms, and chances to see birds and other wildlife. After that, we'll check out the Evans Creek Trail, a short but sweet paved path nearby that provides a mile or so of peaceful pacing.
Expected Conditions:
All trails at the preserve should be open and in good condition. We'll make a loop route, connecting several of the trails as they wander through the forests and open fields on the preserve. Most of the walking is gentle, but there are some mild ups and downs in places. The Evans Creek Trail is paved and should present no difficulties.
Other Considerations:
It's bug season--bring bug repellant. Wear good traction hiking shoes or boots for this walk. Trekking poles might be useful in places, but most terrain is gentle. There is no lunch planned on this trip. Pack a little water and a snack in your pack to tide you over until we get back to Everett. Here's a good trail map of the preserve.
