Walk 7/17 Rasar & Rockport State Parks / 5B's Bakery Lunch
Friday, July 17, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM
4 miles, 300 feet elevation gain.
Meet at Everett Station Park & Ride Lot --

Explore not one but two fine state parks in the Skagit River Valley near Concrete, and then enjoy a scrumptious lunch at one of our favorite stops, the 5 B's Bakery. The walk is mostly gentle as we cover the trails along the river banks, through grassy prairies, and under the giant trees in an old growth forest. The trails here are seldom busy, but the scenery is first-rate.
Expected Conditions:
Most trails in both state parks are open and in good condition. Rockport State Park reports that their ADA trail is closed due to storm damage from last December, but there should be plenty of other good options in the park. We'll start at Rasar State Park and do an easy 1.5-mile loop that goes along the Skagit River and through some open fields. Then we'll drive to Rockport State Park and hike some of the trails through the old growth forests there, doing roughly 2 miles with a mild bit of elevation gain. Both parks have good facilities, excellent restrooms, and pleasant hiking.
Other Considerations:
It's bug season--bring bug repellant. Wear good traction hiking shoes or boots for these walks. Trekking poles are optional-- the terrain is mostly gentle, but there are some mild ups and downs. It won't be necessary to carry a full day pack for these short walks, just take a little water and maybe a snack. Lunch will be at the 5B's Bakery in Concrete. Here is their website. If it's a nice day and we have extra time, we can take a stroll through the town of Concrete also.
