Enjoy the "quiet end" of this 17-mile multi-use trail in south King County. The wide, level, crushed gravel path is perfect for a casual walk on a crisp fall morning. The walk will go one-way from west to east along the section from Maple Valley to Landsburg, with options for a shorter or longer variation. We'll make a coffee shop stop in Maple Valley before returning home.
Expected Conditions:
This should be an easy walk on a rail-trail (wide, level, smooth) that is partly paved and partly compacted gravel. We'll start near the Highway 18 underpass on Highway 169 between Renton and Maple Valley, and head generally southeastt on the trail, to it's ending at Landsburg Road. The actual mileage is close to 5.5 miles, and if you prefer a shorter variation, there are trail access points at around the 3-mile and 4-mile points. Everyone should finish the trail at Landsburg by around 11:15 or so, after which we'll stop at a Starbucks or equivalent for a warm refreshment before heading for home.
Other Considerations:
Any sort of comfortable walking shoes will be fine on this trail, but if it's wet, something waterproof would be recommended. Trekking poles won't be necessary unless you need extra stability on level ground. Bring a snack and a little water with you on the trail, and plan for a stop at a coffee shop or grocery store afterwards.
