Hike 8/9 Naches Peak Loop
Tuesday, August 9, 6:30am - 5:00pm
4 miles, 800 feet elevation gain
Enjoy one of Mount Rainier's best flower hikes on this pleasant loop trail near Chinook Pass. This excellent family hike offers great views of the mountain and acres of meadows adorned with a rainbow of wildflower color.
Snow melt took longer than usual, but the heat wave sped things up, and the trail should be more or less snow-free for our hike. The trailhead is at Tipsoo Lake on Highway 410 near Chinook Pass. The loop trail is usually very well-maintained, but can have some muddy areas. Wildflowers should be excellent. Expect the summertime bugs to be out. The hike ranges in elevation from about 5200 feetup to 6000 feet. There are some sections through trees, but a good portion of the route is through open meadows with plenty of views.
Wear good traction hiking shoes or boots, and bring trekking poles. This can be a busy trail any day of the week in flower season, so come prepared to see plenty of other hikers. Construction on Highway 410 could cause some delays coming and going.
