Waterfall hunting is all about going off the beaten path to discover the often overlooked surprises nature provides us. Let's head over to the peninsula during the heavy run off of early spring and take a series of short hikes to view some little-known scenic wonders that hide along forested creeks. On the agenda are Rocky Brook, Ludlow, Murhut, and Falls View Falls. Some of these beauties are 200 feet high or more. Trip fee includes ferry cost.
Expected Conditions:
We'll plan to visit four waterfalls on this trip. They are in different areas and there is driving in between each, as opposed to one hike having several falls. The hikes range in length from about 1/4 mile round trip to 1.7 miles round trip, so all are relatively short. Trail conditions can vary quite alot, but I would expect only a few minor obstacles such as downed trees or muddy sections. As is typical with visiting seldom-visited falls, the best views can sometimes require some off-trail scrambling. We won't do anything unsafe, but I encourage people to explore to the prime view spots when possible. Expect the falls to be flowing strong with the spring runoff.
Other Considerations:
Wear good traction hiking shoes or boots for the trails, and use trekking poles to assist on the rougher patches. It shouldn't be necessary to carry a pack on the hikes, since the longest one will be around an hour total away from the van. Dress for the weather, take a little water or a snack in your pocket, stay with the group, and you're good. Bring water and a lunch. We will most likely have our lunch break at a picnic area where you'll have access to the van. We'll be taking the 7:55 ferry from Edmonds in the morning, and hopefully return on the 4:40 or 5:30 in the afternoon.
