Hike 11/27 John Tursi Trail
Sunday, November 27, 8:30am - 4:00pm
5 miles, 900 feet elevation gain.
Celebrate the legacy of a former CCC worker who became an invaluable advocate and donor for protecting natural lands in the Anacortes area. The relatively new Tursi Trail in Deception Pass State Park traverses forests, meadows, and rocky balds that offer views of Mount Erie, Campbell Lake, Pass Lake, Mount Baker, and more.
We'll be hiking from near Campbell Lake below Mount Erie to Pass Lake near Deception Pass. This is at low elevations mostly below 400 feet, so there will be no snow encountered. The trail should be in generally good condition, with the usual seasonal messes like possible wet or muddy areas, and perhaps a downed tree or limb. The trail does several ups and downs, so there are about half a dozen uphill sections scattered throughout the day. Most are just a few minutes in length, and there shouldn't be any serious ruggedness or scrambling
Wear good traction hiking shoes or boots, the more waterproof the better. Trekking poles will be helpful on this trail.
