Walk 6/11 Lake Wilderness Tr & Arboretum

3 - 6 miles, 150 feet elevation gain.

Trip description

Enjoy this pleasant tree-lined path near Maple Valley in south King County. The wide, crushed-gravel surface follows the old coal mining railway up a gentle grade that will eventually lead to Black Diamond. Also known as the Green to Cedar River Trail, the route features bridges and underpasses that keep us conveniently out of the nearby suburban traffic. A special treat on our walk will come when we reach the 40-acre Lake Wilderness Arboretum, which features several fine displays including an azalea garden, rock garden, woodland garden, and more. We'll have an hour-long tour of the grounds with a docent from the arboretum, and then have a lunch break before heading back on the trail to our start point.
