Walk 11/13 Fort Worden / Port Townsend
3-4 miles, 200 feet elevation gain.
Trip description
Let's head to the Port Townsend area at the entrance to Puget Sound to explore the grounds of one of the historical army forts that sprang up around the turn of the 20th century. Fort Worden, which is now a state park, offers some scenic walking, plenty of interesting history, and a 1913 lighthouse that still stands on Point Wilson. After a couple hours of walking the park, we'll head to nearby Port Townsend for lunch on the waterfront at the Bayview Restaurant. After lunch, there will be time for exploring Port Townsend and a bit of the surrounding area. This trip will feature three ferry rides, as we'll take the Edmunds ferry in the morning, then return from Port Townsend to Whidbey Island, and finally to Mukilteo and back home.
