Snowshoe or Ski 4/6 Copper Creek Hut
6.5 miles, 800 feet elevation gain.
Trip description
Take a day trip (on skis or snowshoes) to a cozy mountain hut perched on a ridgetop at 4200 feet overlooking the Nisqually Valley near Mount Rainier. This special backcountry haven has been hosting winter wilderness travelers for decades. It sleeps 14 people for overnight stays, but is also open to day trippers, with complete kitchen and lounging areas where you can kick off your boots and have a hot lunch. The Mount Tahoma Trails Association is a volunteer-run organization that operates Copper Creek and 3 other huts in the system. The route to the hut is on snow-covered logging roads that normally are packed and groomed, but note that the difficulty and length of the route to the hut can vary depending on recent conditions.
