Snowshoe 12/9 Teanaway Community Forest

3 miles, 400 feet elevation gain.

Trip description

Let's head over the pass to the eastern slopes of the Cascades and some nice early-season snowshoeing east of Cle Elum near the Teanaway River. The Teanaway Community Forest is a large tract (50,000-acres+) of land managed by the state DNR in collaboration with the Yakama Nation, the Fish and Wildlife Dept., and a wide range of community groups, all with the goal of balancing the needs of the humans, plants, and animals that rely on the land. Many great recreational opportunities are found here, including some nice snowshoeing terrain. We'll focus our explorations near Cheese Rock, a bizarre sandstone formation next to a ridge top with great views of the area. Remember to go to the "Snowshoe Rental" listing if you need to reserve a set of snowshoes and poles.
