Hike/SS 11/29 Mt. Baker Hwy -Twin Lakes
4-5 miles, 1500 feet elevation gain.
Trip description
This will be a trip to a destination in the Mt. Baker Highway area, to be determined according to the conditions up there around the trip date. It will be a moderate-plus difficulty, not to exceed 2000 feet of gain. If the snowline is high and the snow depth is low, places like Heliotrope Ridge (pictured), Yellow Aster Butte, or Excelsior Pass might be accessible. If there's lots of snow and the weather is good, Artist Point may be the place to be. UPDATE: We'll be heading to Twin Lakes, starting from the Yellow Aster Butte Trailhead. There's no snow on the road up to the trailhead, and then the snow coverage begins above there. The scenery is great, including views of Baker, some peaks in Canada, and the two alpine lakes. One way or another, you'll get a good trip and some good exercise-- a chance to burn off those Thanksgiving calories.
