Hike or Bike 6/29 Carbon River Road/Trl.

10 miles, 600 feet elevation gain.

Trip description

This may be my favorite old growth river valley in the Northwest, and I especially love riding my bike through it. The last 5 miles of the Carbon River Road has been closed to motor vehicle traffic for many years now, but hikers and bikers can enjoy the majestic setting as they travel the gentle road under towering fir, cedar, and spruce trees. The surface is mostly fairly smooth, with a few sections of loose rocks that may require walking your bike. There's a gradual uphill grade, but no steep hill climbing. For hikers, it's all quite easy. Note that bikers will have a longer round trip (about 13-15 miles) because you have to start farther back up the road where I can turn around the bike trailer (this is not possible at the hiker trailhead). Our destination is the Ipsut Creek Campground at the end of the old road. If conditions are good, we may also hike a bit up the trail toward Carbon Glacier.

90 US dollars
Meet at Everett Station Park & Ride Lot A. Look for large white passenger van.
