Hike 9/5 Palisade Lakes - Mt. Rainier
7 miles, 1100 feet elevation gain.
Trip description
This trail near Sunrise in Mount Rainier National Park features no less than 5 lovely sub-alpine lakes, reached by an excellent trail that alternates between forest and meadow terrain. Since it doesn't have views of The Mountain "in your face" the whole time, the crowds tend to go elsewhere. Oh, there are nice views of Rainier from the Sunrise Point Trailhead where we begin and end, but the majority of the hike is in the quiet, overlooked lakes basin, where the wildlife sightings often out-number the hiker sightings. Note that this is an "upside-down" hike where the trailhead is the highest point, and more elevation gain is on the return leg of the trip. Cost of the hike includes national park permit fees. Bring a national parks pass if you have one, otherwise you may be subject to an additional park entrance fee.
