Hike 8/17 Asahel Curtis to Snoq. Tunnel

Sorry, this trip is full. Contact Andy to be added to the waiting list

6 miles, 600 feet elevation gain.

Trip description

This hike near Snoqualmie Pass combines pleasant forest hiking alongside crystal-clear cascading creeks, along with a gentle stroll on the historic and scenic railroad corridor, AND a chance to see the portal of the 1916 Snoqualmie Tunnel. We start from the Asahel Curtis Picnic Area, which actually sits between the east- and west-bound lanes of I-90. We hike along the Snoqualmie River and Humpback Creek, and then climb up a few hundred feet to meet the Palouse to Cascades Trail, the rail-trail that uses the old Milwaukee Road line. We'll hike this to the western entrance of the tunnel, and maybe explore inside a little ways. It's refreshingly cool inside on warm summer days, and there's a nice vista overlooking the freeway and river valley. Note that we won't be walking through the tunnel on this trip, just hiking up to it. This trip has an early start and we'll complete the hike before noon. We'll organize a potluck lunch back at the picnic area, and we can do some grilling (if there's no burn ban).

  • Meet at Everett Station Park & Ride Lot A. Look for large white passenger van.
