Hike 8/14 Paradise Glacier Trail

6 miles, 1000 feet elevation gain.

Trip description

Here's a chance to enjoy all the best features of the iconic Paradise area at Mount Rainier, AND get a fascinating up-close look at the effects of climate change. The hike to Paradise Glacier and the network of ice caves it harbored was one of the park's most popular attractions dating back to the early 1900's. By the 1990's, the glacier had lost over 50% of its ice volume, and the ice caves ceased to exist. The glacier has continued melting, now only a fraction of its former size. Let's hike to the rocky basin that the glacier once covered, and see where things are now.
