Hike 7/22 Wenatchee River Road-Trail

6 - 7 miles, 400 feet elevation gain.

Trip description

Discover a hidden gem located off of Highway 2 on the way to Leavenworth, an under-appreciated spot that few hikers know about. I found this peaceful place when snowshoeing in early 2023, and really enjoyed it. We tend to think of the Wenatchee River as that wild stretch of river next to the highway in Tumwater Canyon, just before Leavenworth. But there's a section upriver from there that's relatively secluded, away from the highway, and seldom visited. A gated gravel road leads through forest, passes a couple residences, and turns into trail that goes right alongside the river for over two miles. On a summer day with the river running gently, it's a fine place to dip your toes (or more). Also, a friendly local dog (named Sandy, I found out) often will tag along with hikers, adding a fun twist to the hike. Oh, and anyone up for the 59er Diner afterwards?
