Walk 7/8 Kukutali, Padilla, and LaConner

The Padilla Bay Shore Trail is part of a large National Estuary Reserve headquartered in Bayview.

Easy, pleasant walking along the Bay trail

Looking out over the tidal flats toward Mt. Erie.

Padilla Bay contains over 8,000 acres of eelgrass, an important ecosystem for the many sea (and land) animals living near here.

At the trailhead for the Kukutali Preserve. The two-headed logo represents the partnership between the Swinomish Tribe and WA State Parks.

A small strip of beach called a tomolo connects the mainland with Kiket island (behind the trail signboard).

Lovely forest trail on Kiket Island

Vista on Kiket Island looks over toward Deception Pass

Deception Pass Bridge in view over the waters of Similk Bay.

Several informative signs explained the history of the area, and the native people's uses of the site.

At the outer portion of the Preserve, a narrow spit of land is surrounded by bays on two sides

The weathered drift logs on the beach were very artistic.

Lunch stop in La Conner

Happy group on a beautiful day in LaConner.
