Walk 11/1 Bellingham History Walk


We began our walk near the old (1892) city hall in downtown Bellingham. It's now a museum, and is undergoing some renovations.


Whatcom Creek runs right through downtown. It was originally the site of a sawmill run by the town's founders back in the 1850's


A story pole in downtown pays tribute to the Lummi tribe and the cooperative relationship they had with the first white settlers.


The Mount Baker Theater, a downtown landmark that dates back to 1926.


The old Leopold Hotel dates back to 1929 and has hosted many notable guests over the years, including Clark Gable, Shirley Temple, and President Taft, among others


Facade over the doors of the Bellingham Herald Building, typical of the Gothic style architecture.


Fairhaven was one of four separate towns that merged to form Bellingham in 1904.


Fairhaven Village Green, a public meeting space for many decades


Chuckanut Sandstone was used for the arch over the door of this 1892 bank building
