Snowshoe 3/8 Lake Valhalla
Dangerous maneuvers-- We had to cross Highway 2 on foot to start the tour.

We first walked the road through Yodelin Village, where there are a few dozen cabins. One had this cool igloo out front.

There were snow machines of every vintage along Yodelin Road. We just walked though!

Early on, we encountered Nason Creek and crossed on a snow-covered log.

Snow cover was fine here, but not much snow driving up to the pass.

Nice semi-open terrain in the Nason Creek Valley. We're heading toward the rocky peak above.

Snow was quite solid. Didn't sink in much at all on snowshoes.

Having a look around about halfway up to the lake.

Carefully crossing a steep sidehill section.

Near Lake Valhalla, the creek formed a small canyon through the snow.

Walking across the frozen surface of Lake Valhalla.

At this elevation (4800'+), no worries about walking on the lake. About 3 feet of snow on the lake ice.

Preparing for my Lake Valhalla tradition...

How often do you get to stand on your head in the middle of a mountain lake?

The group poses with Lake Valhalla and Lichtenberg Mountain.

Great job everyone! It was a good challenge, and all were up to the task.

Making our way back across the lake.

Snowing and blowing on the lake. It didn't last though.

The snow canyon again

Clouds lifted some to reveal a few afternoon views.

Even got a little sunbreak at times.

Looking up at Lichtenberg Mountain. We met a couple of skiers who went up it.

Coming back out at the highway at trips end. Total: 5.8 miles, 1500 feet gained.
