Hike 7/19 Klahhane Ridge

A nice start to the day, on the Edmonds-Kingston ferry

Up, up, and away on the Switchback Trail. We gained 1600 feet in 1.5 miles.

The flower show lasted all day. Larkspur shown here.

Views toward Mt. Olympus and the interior of the Olympics grow by the minute.

We saw several colors and varieties of Indian Paintbrush

Reaching the Klahhane Ridge crest just east of Mount Angeles.

Sand-dwelling Wallflower

Took a lunch on the ridge overlooking the Strait of JDF and all the way to Mt. Baker

Continuing after lunch on the ridge trail. View is to the east toward Grand Ridge.

Baker on the horizon, over 90 miles away.

Weathered snags on the ridge, a sign of how harsh this environment can be.

A nice arrangement of lupine in a bed of spreading phlox

A small subset of our group works their way up the trail to our final high point

At about 6050 feet on Klahhane Ridge

The rock formations were endlessly fascinating too. Examples of the pillow lava are seen here on a shoulder of Mt. Angeles

Small horn of pillow lava along the trail

I had a full group that made the best of this glorious summer day.
