Hike 5/25 Sultan River Canyon
Before starting our hike, we took a short detour to the Culmback Dam at the west end of Spada Lake.

Great views from the dam. Bald Mountain towers over the north side of the lake.

Looking east over Spada Lake toward Morning Star Peak and other mountains

The snowy slopes of Vesper Peak could be seen from the road

Start of the river canyon trail. You walk a mile on a gated road, then pick up the trail here.

Beautiful old growth forest along the canyon trail

Canadian Dogwood, aka Bunchberry, in bloom

Lots of deer fern unfurling

A few mushrooms too

Trail is very nicely graded, nice and smooth, and has lots of switchbacks to make the climbing easier.

After dropping several hundred feet, you reach the Sultan River, about a mile downstream from Spada Lake dam

River views

An old snag showing the slow decomposition of decades
