Hike 4/2 Discovery Park

When the park was created in 1972, the native peoples received 40 acres of the land, and this facility is the centerpiece of that.

It's an educational and community resource for all tribes, an arts center, and gathering place.

Some of the native-inspired artworks on display at the center.

A couple of paddleboarders brave the gray, chilly morning on the sound

Pausing for a lunch break along the beach near West Point

West Point Lighthouse, built in 1882.

Overlooking the beach and Puget Sound

Looking south toward Alki Point, the finger of land jutting out at top right

Before there was Discovery Park, it was Fort Lawton, an army outpost. Some of the historic buildings have survived.

Lots of spring color to be seen, like these Red current bushes
