Hike 4/15 West Elwha Trail

Started slightly north of the ONP boundary, entering the park after 0.4 miles of trail.

Several little side streams were crossed en route

Carefully making the crossing of the narrow foot bridge

Numerous fallen vine maple leaves settled on top of the sword ferns

High above the Elwha, with a view up the valley toward Griff Peak and Unicorn Peak.

Resting along the riverbank

Small field of skunk cabbage in a wet area near the river bank

Chocolate lily in bloom on a hilside above the river

Elwha River is wide and swift as it heads for the Strait

Fawn Lily

Unidentified blossom found along the trail

After the hike, we took a brief drive up the road on the east side of the river

Madison Falls, just a short walk from the current end of the Elwha Road

Elwha Road once extended nearly 10 miles up the valley, but washouts now put the road end here, only 2 miles from Highway 101
