Hike 3/6 Capitol State Forest / Mima Falls
Welcome sign at Mima Mounds, not far from Capitol State Forest.

There are hundreds of similar-sized mounds extending across the prairie. No one is sure what formed them.

On the Mima Falls trail in Capitol State Forest. Several nice bridges like this.

Beautifully maintained trail, very typical of the hike.

Plenty of sunshine after a cloudy start to the day.

Listen to the Frogs!

Arriving at Mima Falls

It's a small falls on a small creek, but still quite pleasant.

Nice viewing area at the falls, including a picnic table.

Side view of the falls shimmering in the sunshine.

A few older trees remained in the forest. Most of the land has been logged over the years.

More great forest trail

Oops--there were the occasional blowdowns, usually not difficult to overcome.

Resting on an old culvert.
