Hike 12/3 Maury Island Marine Park

Took the ferry from West Seattle to Vashon Island. Snow on the Olympics was beautiful.

Morning view of a shady Mt. Rainier from the ferry

A very inviting becnh overlooking the south sound at the Maury Island Marine Park

An unusual sight-- a mile or more of undeveloped shoreline on Puget Sound

Got down to the beach briefly. Tide was up, which kept us from walking very far.

The Maury Island Marine Park has campsites for kayakers to paddle in to.

Lots of fine forest trails up above the beaches. We even passed over the high point of the island, 492.'

A brisk north wind made it a good day for the sailboats. At one point, we saw nearly 20 in a line heading south.

Looking south down the shore of Maury. Tacoma in the distance at left.

Made a side trip to Point Robinson Lighthouse on the easternmost point of Maury.

Never got tired of looking at Rainier.
