Hike 10/10 Carne Mountain Golden Larches Hike
The nearby Pomas Fire started in June, so as a precaution, the forests along Chiwawa Road were thinned, creating fire breaks

A strange sight at the usually very busy Phelps Creek Trailhead-- only 1 other vehicle

Starting upwards, getting views across the Chiwawa River Valley

The same trailhead is used to go to Spider Meadows. We branched off to go to Carne Mountain here

Buck Mountain

Lots of nice color in the forest from the various berry bushes

Caught sight of a pine marten climbing a tree

Nearing the basin below Carne Mountain. Golden Larches above.

Carne Basin, full of Lyall's Larch in their golden splendor

Peek-a-boo, I see you.

Trail through the larch forest. The Lyall's Larch only are found at high elevations (above 6000'), and mainly on the eastern side of the Cascades.

Lurching through the larches

Ever-expending views as we climb higher and higher

There's gold in them thar hills

Boundary of the Glacier Peak Wilderness

Almost to the top

Three amigos on the summit

High country east of Glacier Peak
